The course is aimed at training students on the main principles and applications of regulation, also with respect to its practical impact on the markets and business.

After studying this course, the student should be able to: a) Demonstrate a general knowledge of the main principles and implementing aspects of the regulation of market and business. b) Understand the main impacts of regulation on markets and business. c) Compare EU and national legal systems and their development. d) Identify and assess the key regulatory issues relevant in different industries.

Frontal teaching, interactive discussion, case studies.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

a) Attending students: Continuous assessment during the lessons (including break-out sessions and written tests): 1/3 of the grade. Final written examination: 2/3 of the grade. b) Non-attending students: Final written examination: 100% of the grade.

Introduction of the course. General principles of the regulation.

Settimana 2

TLC Regulation and interplay with other regulatory powers (antitrust and consumer protection) and judicial interventions. Practical case: the 28-day billing.

Settimana 3

Consumer protection. Interplay between sectorial regulations and unfair commercial practices. Practical case: the conflict of competence between AGCM and Agcom

Settimana 4

Main aspects of the regulation concerning cybersecurity. Pratical case: the cyber attack to Norsk Hydro.

Settimana 5

Golden Power and Foreign Direct Investments. Interaction with EU principles. Practical cases: the Vivendi / TIM case and the Xella case

Settimana 6

Principles and implementing aspects of data protection. Practical case: the Google Drive case.

Settimana 7

General principles and implementing aspects of competition and antitrust. Agreements and abuse of dominant position.

Settimana 8

Practical case for antitrust - agreements.

Settimana 9

Practical case for antitrust - abuse of dominant position.

State Aid law and EU principles. Practical case: the Tercas case (State aid to banks).
