ASIALAB is a research laboratory focused on political, social, economic, and cultural developments in Asian societies; bilateral relations between East Asian states; trilateral and regional agreements among Asian countries; Asia’s role within the shifting global geopolitical landscape; and relations between East Asia and Europe, with particular attention to Italy.

A key area of focus for the observatory is the Asia-Europe Connectivity Agenda, taking into account major initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the EU Connectivity Strategy, the Free and Open Indo-Pacific, the Transatlantic Alliance in the Age of Global China, and similar frameworks. These developments, occurring within the broader context of global realignment—challenging multilateral institutions and global governance—highlight the importance of studying the sustainability of connections between Europe and Asia.

The observatory’s work is dedicated to deepening the understanding of international affairs and aims to contribute to discussions on the strategic, economic, social, and cultural value of Euro-Asian connectivity, the sustainability of related policies and infrastructure, and the governance arrangements of the relevant institutions.

The laboratory collaborates with various governments and embassies, foundations, and academic institutions to share knowledge and insights, and to develop new approaches and strategic analyses to address the emerging challenges and opportunities concerning the Asian region.
