The MeGLAB aims to examine how international affairs influence and are influenced by the countries of the southern Mediterranean that make up the broader MENA region, as well as the Gulf countries. Geographically, the Observatory studies the region through its three main areas: North Africa, also known as the Maghreb; the Middle East, or Mashriq/Levant; and the Gulf Peninsula. Each region is examined through the lens of three main disciplines: History, Society, and Politics. Given the transformations the region has undergone, particularly over the last decade following the so-called Arab Spring, the Observatory, in addition to the aforementioned objectives, also aims to build academic and institutional relationships with research and public policy institutions in the region to foster collaboration and partnerships across the Mediterranean.
