The study of migration is among the disciplines that most require contributions from a wide range of diverse yet interrelated methodological perspectives. History and economic-political geography allow us to understand the underlying reasons that drive people to leave their homeland for uncertain destinations, which, however, often represent the only possible alternative for the preservation and development of a group of individuals' lives. These are the necessary prerequisites for designing appropriate policies, which the law translates into a complex set of legal provisions, with those concerning international protection holding a special place. The MIA observatory aims to foster a productive interdisciplinary dialogue to study this phenomenon, understand its causes, and propose solutions. This goal is pursued through the involvement of academics and professionals, alongside a permanent group of interns selected from students interested in the topics addressed by MIA.
