The Luiss Cultural Heritage Initiative (LCHI)
Introduction
The Luiss Cultural Heritage Initiative (LCHI) is a project aimed at developing new policy ideas for cultural heritage sectors, ranging from traditional food and wine and related services to fashion, cinema, and art. These sectors offer opportunities for growth and development to both firms and non-profit organizations, such as museums and foundations.
They are part of the creative and cultural industries, which are becoming increasingly central to policy-making in Europe. They have seen a significant rise in their importance in recent years as their direct economic value grows at the European level, along with their ability to generate indirect economic value through their effects on related sectors such as tourism, transport, hotels, and other forms of short-term accommodation.
Finally, the importance of new technologies applied to heritage goods and services (the digitalization of cultural goods and innovative techniques for exploiting and protecting these goods) is also increasing.
The economic importance of cultural heritage sectors hold for Europe’s future—economically, politically, socially, and symbolically—became evident during the COVID crisis and has been recognized both nationally with the PNRR and at the EU level through the Next Generation EU program.
