Intended learning outcomes

The main objective of the LAB is to provide a first professional experience, working on some of the main policies that will guide the European strategy in the coming years, useful above all for those who intend to undertake a work activity in the national or European institutions, or in companies operating abroad/Europe, Think-tanks, media etc.

Course Contents

This year the Lab will focus on the Strategic Autonomy of the EU, in these strategic areas: 1.EU Autonomy and Energy Security. As a consequence of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the EU Energy Autonomy became central. Which are the impacts on the economy? Which are the possible solutions towards sustainable alternative resources, in place of the fossil fuels currently in use, according to the EU Green Deal Strategy 2.EU Food autonomy/CAP. Another strategic topic is the European Food and Agriculture autonomy. Which were the consequences of the war on the food supply? Which actions are needed and provided at EU level to guarantee the food supplies and at reasonable prices for consumers? 3.EU Digital Transformation is a transversal instrument to support each policy in the coming years. Digital transformation means innovation, new opportunities, new job, new investments but, at the same time, it might increase cyber threats and attacks. How the European Union intends to develop a safe Digital Transition and to defend the economy and the society from cyber-attacks? The LAB will also focus on the increasing importance of communication, not only as a management tool, but also as a true war “weapon”: what to support and what to avoid. We will speak of: Public Diplomacy, Capacity Building, Fake News. For each of the 3 sectors, we will deepen the threats and opportunities and their main impacts on the society, thanks to experts and professionals who will be invited to the Laboratory to give the students an overview and specific documentation on these topics. During the class, students will receive practical indications on how to draw up notes, information notes, PowerPoint presentations, speaking points, meeting agenda, formal invitation letters, abstracts etc on what it is discussed during the class. The working methods will be both individual and in groups.
