ETHICAL STANDARDS AND PRACTICES IN FINANCE
Instructional goals
The course will provide students with advanced knowledge of the CFA's Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct and the areas of application of each standard.
Students will acquire an in depth understanding of practical ways to maintain an ethical behavior in the field of investment management and will be led to reflect on the importance of professional conduct to avoid loss of reputation, integrity and the potential for legal actions.
The seminar will give students a better understanding of selected topics of the CFA level 1 exam.
The course is a prerequisite for participation in the assignment of CFA exam scholarships, which will be given to top students upon formal request through the university’s competition announcement.
Intended learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: through lecture participation and case studies, the student will develop the ability to understand ethical issues relating to the world of finance as well as the workplace dynamics that can create ethically complex situations. The student will also learn about the CFA certification format and the topics which are studied through the first level of the examination. At the end of the course there will be a written test.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: By acquiring the correct tools and methods for theory application, the student will be able to interpret situations capable of generating ethical dilemmas and choose the most appropriate course of action.
Autonomy of judgment: Through the use of the methodologies acquired during the course, the student will acquire skills necessary to analyse situations and identifying the information necessary for their solution. Specifically, critical thinking skills will be adequately developed by carrying out case studies on real life situations.
Communication skills: At the end of the course the student will be able to master, with adequate terminological precision, the lexicon characterizing the topics covered during the seminar.
Learning skills: The knowledge acquired during the course will allow the student to independently understand and interpret situations related to ethical dilemmas. The student will develop a solid knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the subject that will allow him to continue to deepen the topics addressed independently.
