In the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, Professor Maria Savona was awarded the 2023 Linceo Prize for Economics today.

Professor Savona teaches Innovation Economics at the Department of Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex (UK) and Applied Economics at the Department of Economics and Finance at Luiss.

Her research focuses on the economics of innovation; the effects of technological change, particularly digitalization, on employment and wage inequality; structural change and the development of economies, especially the emergence of global value chains in services; and the value and governance of data.

This important recognition is a testament to Professor Savona’s extraordinary talent, dedication, and the impact her research has had in the field of the economics of technological change, both at the University of Sussex and, more recently, at Luiss.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Accademia dei Lincei for awarding me the prestigious Linceo Prize for Economics. It is an honor to be recognized by such an authoritative institution in the field of scientific research. This award is a great motivation to keep contributing through research in the field of innovation economics, in a context that requires scientific rigor to formulate appropriate industrial and labor policies. I can only express my gratitude to all my colleagues, students, and collaborators who have shared my academic journey with me, both abroad and in Italy, where I will contribute to Luiss’s strategic plan to promote excellence in scientific research and multidisciplinary collaboration. I am also deeply honored to have received this award from Roberto Antonelli, President of the Accademia dei Lincei, and from Professor Giorgio Parisi, Nobel Prize laureate in Physics,” said Professor Maria Savona.
