42nd ATRIP Congress at Luiss
The 42nd Congress of the Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP) recently concluded at the Viale Pola Luiss Campus. ATRIP plays a pivotal role in fostering international dialogue and collaboration in the field of intellectual property. The association comprises around 500 scholars worldwide, ranging from early-stage researchers to renowned professors.
Under the scientific direction of Christophe Geiger, a professor at Luiss and President of ATRIP, the four-day congress was a remarkable success, bringing together a record 120 speakers and 200 delegates from all five continents.
This year's event focused on how intellectual property laws and their enforcement promote ethical and sustainable innovation. Given the growing concerns about environmental stewardship and respect for fundamental human values—including dignity, free expression, privacy, and diversity—there is an urgent need for a holistic re-evaluation of how intellectual property laws impact the pursuit of these values. The recent establishment of the Luiss Innovation Law and Ethics Observatory (ILEO) confirms the University's attention and responsiveness to this strategic research area.
Paolo Boccardelli, the Rector of Luiss, welcomed the delegates, emphasizing the timely significance of the congress for our University and its impact on both academic and entrepreneurial futures. Participants from Luiss University included Antonio Punzi, Head of the Law Department at Luiss; Edward Kwakwa, Assistant Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization; Aldo Sandulli, Deputy for Research, Department of Law at Luiss; Gustavo Ghidini, Professor at Luiss; and Gustavo Olivieri, Professor at Luiss. Cedric Manara, Director and Head of Copyright at Google, delivered the dinner speech during the Gala Dinner at Villa Blanc.
