Agreement between Intesa Sanpaolo and Luiss on the transfer of tax credits
Rome, April 5, 2023 – Intesa Sanpaolo and Luiss Guido Carli University have signed an agreement for the transfer of tax credits related to the Building Bonuses and the Superbonus, with a tax value of 60 million euros.
Intesa Sanpaolo was the first bank to announce its operations under the Superbonus, Ecobonus, and Sismabonus programs in August 2020. Through an effective control system monitored by its partner Deloitte on a dedicated online platform for Intesa Sanpaolo customers, the bank acquired over 16 billion in tax credits—representing 50% of the market—corresponding to approximately 200,000 processed applications for over 70,000 customers, linked to more than 160,000 redeveloped properties nationwide.
The Group, led by Carlo Messina, was also the first Italian bank to fully implement the Aid Decree, which provided for the transfer of tax credits to businesses with the aim of expanding banks' fiscal capacity. In an evolving phase, the Bank has consistently used this tool and continues to do so, initiating assignment agreements for over 6 billion euros. The goal is to keep engaging a significant number of businesses to revitalize the credit transfer market, and the agreement signed with Luiss Guido Carli University aligns perfectly with that objective. Luiss shared this goal, convinced of the importance of supporting the construction sector, which is crucial for modernizing the country’s real estate assets.
Roberto Gabrielli, Intesa Sanpaolo’s Regional Director for Lazio and Abruzzo, said: “Thanks to this important agreement with Luiss, we continue to implement the mechanism for assigning tax credits for the Superbonus and other building incentives to expand the banks’ fiscal capacity. This is a significant operation, and we hope that new initiatives will soon follow with other local companies. These companies can benefit from a substantial tax advantage while also contributing to an initiative that supports the Italian economy. Our Group has always worked in partnership with Deloitte, ensuring a high level of control over cases and thereby guaranteeing a quality credit portfolio. This offers value both to the construction companies that turn to us and to the businesses that purchase the accrued tax credits.”
Luiss’s General Director, Giovanni Lo Storto, added: “Thanks to the agreement with Intesa Sanpaolo, we are further strengthening the university’s ongoing commitment to ESG issues.
This initiative, undertaken with one of our long-standing partners, is one we hope will be emulated by other organizations in Lazio and beyond. It underscores how universities can serve as hubs that make a tangible, positive impact in the regions where they operate.”
