Call for International Chairs for the 2020–2021 Academic Year

Call for International Chairs for the 2020–2021 Academic Year

Applications must be submitted by July 1, 2020, at 5:00 pm (Italian local time)

To strengthen cooperation with global partners, Luiss University supports up to 15 faculty exchanges.

International Chairs may conduct research, teach, and engage in international cooperation across all of Luiss's departments and schools.

During the mobility period, Luiss faculty are called upon to strengthen existing partnerships or launch new ones with internationally renowned universities, research centers, foreign companies, and institutions.

The mobility program is structured as a two-way, reciprocal exchange. Luiss faculty apply jointly with a foreign scholar, and each application includes a visit by the foreign scholar to Luiss and a visit by the Luiss faculty to the foreign institution, with costs shared.

Applications

Luiss faculty nominate their international counterparts (professor and university) and apply jointly.

The application must include the following information:

  • CVs of the two professors
  • Planned activities
    • Teaching program
    • Partnership development
  • Period during which the exchange will occur
  • Funding formula

Incoming professors are expected to:

  • Stay at Luiss for a minimum of two weeks and up to four weeks. Longer visits can be arranged under special circumstances.
  • Give lectures and seminars that are fully consistent with the purpose of the program

Please note that each university may only accept one outgoing international chair.

Selection

The selection committee will be chaired by the Deputy Rector for Internationalization.

The academic committee may suggest alternative academic partnerships based on the proposed topic.

Funding

International chairs will be funded by both institutions, with each institution preferably covering the costs of its own faculty members.

Luiss regulates remuneration as follows.

Standard option: Luiss covers the costs of its own faculty

  • Junior: a one-off payment of €2,000 (gross, subject to current tax legislation) + a maximum of €1,000 as reimbursement
  • Senior: a one-time payment of €3,000 (gross, subject to current tax legislation) + a maximum of €2,000 as reimbursement

Alternative option: Luiss covers the costs of the foreign scholar

  • Junior: a one-time payment of up to €3,000 (gross, subject to current tax legislation)
  • Senior: a one-time payment of up to €5,000 (gross, subject to current tax legislation)

The senior level requires a minimum of 8 years of post-doctoral experience or at least 8 years of full-time research experience after earning a degree that allows admission to a doctorate program.
