Francesco Grassi: Forbes 100 Under 30 Venture Capitalist
Graduate Francesco Grassi began his studies with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics of Financial Intermediaries, and then continued with a Master's Degree in Economics and Business Management. “I chose Luiss because it's a university that provides an excellent education while also allowing you to engage in sports and build a network of friendships. The relationships were what made this university truly special.”
During the transition from his bachelor's to his master's degree, Francesco lived in the United States for six months, where he got to know and explore the field that interests him the most. “Going to New York opened my eyes and let me experience a world that's different from ours. There, I delved into the venture capital sector with great interest.” Once back in Italy and starting his new academic journey, he got involved with LVenture Group through its business accelerator, Luiss EnLabs: “In 2015, it was a small company in a burgeoning sector, but it allowed me to study while also focusing on my work.”
Today, Francesco is an Investment Manager at LVenture Group: “The company has grown exponentially, and my job is incredibly stimulating—something I certainly wouldn't have achieved without Luiss's support.” The graduate was recently included in the Forbes 100 Under 30 ranking once again. “It's a recognition that makes me happy and rewards my efforts. I've always guided my studies and my life around the values of determination, focus, and commitment. When you're recognized for your work, you smile, but not too much, or you risk getting a bit full of yourself,” he explains.
Francesco fondly remembers his university years, and among the figures who have had a particularly positive impact on his career, he mentions Giovanni Lo Storto, Luiss's General Director. “He is and has been my mentor and go-to person, always ready to lend a hand and engage with students and alumni. His role was undoubtedly crucial,” he says.
He advises today's college students to stay truly hungry, because despite the COVID-19 emergency, the world is full of huge opportunities to be seized with courage. “Then there's my motto: Be greedy, be fearless! I'd encourage everyone to believe in their ideas and projects, because once you have an idea or a project, making it a reality is much easier than it seems.”
Francesco's goal for the future is to continue working in his field and become a venture capitalist with his own fund: “My mission is to support other people's ideas.”
