ENGAGE.EU European University is launched
An international platform for teaching, research, and societal impact has been established by a consortium of seven European universities, including Luiss.
Today, the European Union announced the results of the second call for consortia under “European Universities,” the initiative shaping the future of EU flagship universities. Among the selected consortia is ENGAGE.EU, which includes Luiss Guido Carli among its participating universities.
Europe’s future will be shaped by major societal challenges: digitization and artificial intelligence, climate change and sustainability, an aging population, and migration. Along with leading European universities in economics and social sciences, Luiss Guido Carli joins ENGAGE.EU, the consortium selected as one of the European Universities 2020. The consortium aims to provide European citizens with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle society's upcoming challenges.
ENGAGE.EU is a group of seven universities that share European values and a global vision of knowledge. Along with Luiss Guido Carli, the participating universities include: the University of Mannheim (Germany) – Coordinator, the NHH Norwegian School of Economics (Norway), Tilburg University (Netherlands), the University of National and World Economy (Bulgaria), Toulouse 1 University Capitole (France), and the WU Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria).
As of today, all the universities in the consortium collectively serve as the academic home for over 100,000 students, faculty, and staff. ENGAGE.EU will leverage the existing synergies among partner universities, steering current collaborations toward a new dimension of common and shared development. This will allow each university to enrich the others with its areas of specialization, along with its unique cultural and geographical context.
ENGAGE.EU also aims to equip its students with the tools to become fully fledged European citizens who are socially responsible for the impact their future actions, knowledge, and professionalism can have on society at large. Built on a solid foundation in the social sciences, the consortium takes a comprehensive approach that follows three interconnected paths: Engaged Learning, Engaged Research and Innovation, and Engaged in Society. Specifically, the partner universities aim to develop new joint courses and teaching models, steering study and research toward the issues of the future. This initiative would not only benefit university students, but also anyone in society who is interested in learning.
On the research front, the consortium will be enhanced with a think tank to support collaboration among researchers, students, and other societal stakeholders. The ENGAGE.EU labs will enable universities to exchange ideas with stakeholders from civil society and the business world, creating spaces for innovation.
“Luiss Guido Carli is one of the promoters of the new 'European University' called Engage. The project, funded by the European Commission, involves a gradual integration that will bring together seven universities from Austria, Bulgaria, Italy, France, Germany, Norway, and the Netherlands to create a single space for teaching and research. Luiss remains a center of academic excellence, capable of creating added value nationally, across Europe, and globally,” stated Professor Andrea Prencipe, Rector of Luiss Guido Carli.
The ENGAGE.EU universities are eager to collaborate within this new European University. This is a unique opportunity to teach and inspire a new generation of citizens who will help make the European Union a global player in addressing societal challenges.
