Luiss-Inwit: a partnership to develop new digital teaching methods
Rome, 07/29/2020 – Luiss Guido Carli University and INWIT, Italy’s leading tower company, have signed a partnership to develop mobile connection capabilities at four of the university’s educational facilities in Rome.
INWIT will install DAS (Distributed Antenna System) infrastructure at the Viale Pola campus (the University’s historic location, home to the Rector’s Office, General Management, and the Presidency), Viale Romania (where the Faculties of Economics, Business & Management, and Political Science are located), Via Parenzo (the Faculty of Law), and Villa Blanc (Luiss Business School). This infrastructure will optimize mobile signal reception from various operators, ensuring high-performance mobile services for professors, students, university staff, and all those who visit these campuses.
This new infrastructure will primarily enhance signal coverage in the university’s indoor areas—classrooms, labs, and libraries—where users will be able to utilize various devices (PCs, tablets, and smartphones) with excellent performance and complete mobility.
DAS are systems made up of interconnected micro-antennas that receive signals from operators via fiber optics, creating an effective, fast, and high-performance dedicated network. Its small size and very low power make it a system with an absolutely negligible visual and electromagnetic impact.
By installing these DAS systems, Luiss—recently ranked first among medium-sized non-state universities by Censis for criteria including the spread of digital services—is at the forefront of this crucial field for the future of education, especially in addressing the new needs arising from the impact of COVID-19.
“In recent months, our University has accelerated the process of digitizing teaching by increasing student-professor interaction through synchronous lessons,” said Luiss General Director Giovanni Lo Storto. He continued: “Starting in September, our University will resume in-person activities, but digital learning will also play a strategic role within our new educational model. Luiss continues to invest in enhancing its technological infrastructure to ensure, thanks to a partner of undisputed value like Inwit, service accessibility and a super-fast browsing experience for our entire community.”
“I’m proud of the partnership we’ve signed with Luiss University, and I’m certain that INWIT’s experience—with innovation in its DNA—will enable the university to build a connection network that will support the development of increasingly high-performance services for its students,” emphasized INWIT’s CEO, Giovanni Ferigo. I believe we can develop services for increasingly interactive teaching that will best prepare the country's new leadership class.”
