Luiss presents the GEP “Gender Equality Plan”

Promoting gender equality, a fundamental pillar of an open, connected, and responsible university: this is the goal of the Luiss Gender Equality Plan (GEP), a plan of concrete actions that the University will launch on March 8.

In the presence of Mara Carfagna, Minister for the South and Territorial Cohesion, the Luiss leadership—Vice President Paola Severino and Director General Giovanni Lo Storto—will introduce the work coordinated by the Rector’s Advisor for Diversity and Inclusion, Emiliana De Blasio. This will be followed by a discussion between Gianni Riotta, Director of the Luiss School of Journalism, and Simona Sala, Director of TG3. They will then introduce a roundtable discussion where student Fiammetta Sacconi will engage with “the voice of companies,” represented by Diego Ciulli, Head of Government Affairs & Public Policy at Google Italy, Anita Likmeta, a young digital entrepreneur, and Simona Scarpaleggia, Board Member of EDGE Strategy and a Luiss alumna.

The GEP is much more than a policy document; it’s a defining element of the University that highlights how it represents the world and is a part of it. In addition to the five areas outlined by the European Commission, the Luiss GEP also includes a sixth driver to address gender inequalities in external communication and events.

Luiss has been working on numerous initiatives for future female students over the past few months. Among these is #DonneSTEM, a project that, thanks to support from some of the country's largest companies (Terna, BNL, Leonardo, and Inwit, to name just a few), will fund scholarships for young women pursuing scientific studies with a view to managerial careers in the ICT world.

The focus on inclusion is also evident in the packed schedule of events on gender issues organized at Luiss, aimed at raising awareness among students, staff, and faculty about “Goal 5” of the UN 2030 Agenda.

The Gender Equality Plan is the tangible result of a process of participation and listening that actively involved our entire community. It’s not a finish line but a starting point, with our students, as always, at the forefront, carrying the values of diversity, inclusion, and equality into their personal and professional lives wherever they go,” said the Rector’s Advisor for Diversity and Inclusion, Professor Emiliana De Blasio.
