Luiss strengthens its cooperation with academic institutions, the business community, and its alumni network in the United States.

Strengthening the bridge between our country and the U.S. with expertise, relationships, and new business opportunities—strategic assets of a new “economic and educational diplomacy”—is the goal of Luiss Guido Carli’s mission to the United States. This mission coincides with the launch of the Luiss US Foundation and the international Master’s program “Trans-Atlantic Business Executive” (TABE), which will train managers and professionals through an international partnership involving academic institutions and industry associations from six countries: Italy, the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

These significant developments were unveiled during meetings in Washington, D.C., on Friday, October 28th and Saturday, October 29th. The university’s delegation included Vice President Paola Severino, Rector Andrea Prencipe, Vice Rector for Internationalization Raffaele Marchetti, and the President of the Luiss Alumni Association (ALL), Andrea Battista.

The “Luiss US Foundation” – launched on Saturday, October 29, in the presence of Italian Ambassador to the United States Mariangela Zappia – will serve as an “operational hub” for fundraising and identifying new stakeholders in the United States. Indeed, the new Foundation will enable the University to develop stronger partnerships with universities, companies, and civil society organizations in the United States, with the aim of also becoming a key point of contact for the large Italian-American community in the U.S. To achieve these goals, the new Foundation will draw on the ideas and resources of the university’s Alumni community, a network of over 54,000 professionals across five continents. On this occasion, the new Washington Chapter will be inaugurated, joining the two already established in New York and California. The new office in the U.S. capital will be led by Giuliana Canè, Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

But that's not all: within the Transatlantic Investment Committee (TIC), a platform established in October 2021 to strengthen ties between Italy and the U.S. in industrial and research co-investments (click here to review the first U.S. Meeting), Luiss will be one of the driving forces behind the launch of the International Master's program Trans-Atlantic Business Executive (TABE). This program aims to enhance the skills of global leaders and managers, enabling them to navigate the economic and commercial challenges across the Atlantic. TABE will integrate the worlds of education and business, bringing together five of the world’s most prestigious universities: in addition to Luiss, George Washington University (GWU), SciencesPo, Uni Ottawa, the Hertie School, and King’s College London.

Luiss is proud to help write a new chapter in the relationship between Rome and Washington, a significant and emblematic step, especially in these times of great uncertainty. By connecting the education systems and the industrial sectors of our countries through this ideal bridge, and extending it to our closest continental partners, we are already building a solid foundation for a recovery based on the creation of new skills and opportunities. Our goal is to generate robust economic growth and strengthen a shared vision of the world,” said the University’s Vice President, Paola Severino

During the American mission, Vice President Paola Severino, Rector Andrea Prencipe, and the President of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), Robert Allegrini, signed an agreement to launch the “NIAF-Luiss Guido Carli” scholarships, enabling U.S. students of Italian origin to attend Luiss.

These new Luiss initiatives in the United States consolidate and accelerate our internationalization journey, which now includes over 315 partner universities in 64 countries,” said Rector Andrea Prencipe. He added, “Our university’s global approach therefore continues along two paths: preparing students with an international mindset and interdisciplinary knowledge to tackle the complexity of future challenges, and strengthening our relationship with businesses and institutions overseas, including through the Luiss Alumni network, who are our university’s true ambassadors.”

Finally, it’s worth noting that in 2022, Luiss climbed the international rankings for higher education: according to the prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022, the university named after Guido Carli is ranked 1st in Italy and 22nd globally for Political and International Studies, and is in the Top 100 for Social Sciences and Management.
