Luiss is set to receive new funding as a Partner University for a four-year research project coordinated by the University of Innsbruck. The project is part of the new European program Horizon Europe, the European Union’s framework program for research and innovation for the period 2021–2027, which succeeds Horizon 2020.

The VALPOP project, “Valuing Public Goods in a Populist World: A Comparative Analysis of Network Dynamics and Societal Outcomes,” aims to explore how populism affects the availability of public goods in Europe. It does so through a unique approach, starting with the question of how populist politics impacts social networks in the media, business, and politics, and then analyzing how these networks both limit and support the creation and distribution of public goods. These public goods include the rule of law, education, physical and digital infrastructure, healthcare, and social services.

At Luiss, the project's scientific lead is Antonio Majocchi, a full professor holding the Deloitte Chair in International Management and Global Challenges.
