An outstanding achievement for Luiss Lab of European Economics on being awarded a Grant contract from the DG ECFIN of the European Commission

A project to integrate the EU-KLEMS database with data on intangibles , aimed at improving productivity analysis for policy evaluation

We are proud to announce that Luiss Lab of European Economics has been awarded a Grant contract from the Directorate for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) of the European Commission for the Provision of industry level growth and productivity data with special focus on intangible assets.

European governments are under severe pressure to implement the most viable policy environment for reviving productivity growth, following the economic backlash of recent years. Future policy decisions must acknowledge the impacts of four major trends on the state of current economies, the shift of investments towards intangible assets; digital transformation in business processes; technological improvements biasing labour demand towards high-skilled workers; and the likelihood of significant economic restructuring following COVID-19. In order to make an informed analysis of these interlocking tendencies for policy recommendation, it is necessary that research data accounts for the multiple dimensions of countries, industries and different asset types.

The Grant contract aims at updating the EU-KLEMS database.

and integrating estimates of intangible investments as defined in INTAN-Invest.

The EU-KLEMS database stores data on measures of economic growth, productivity, employment, capital formation, and technological change at the industry level for all EU member states, the UK, Japan, and the US. Data covers the years 1995 to 2017. The current version will be updated to the most recent years and extended to include estimates of intangible assets (i.e., organizational capital, training, marketing and branding) in the EUKLEMS productivity framework, marking a fundamental improvement for productivity analysis that serves as a strategic tool for policy evaluation.
