REBIBBIA LOCKDOWN airs Sunday, December 5, on the TG1 Special

Speciale Tg1, in collaboration with Rai Cinema, premiered the documentary film Rebibbia Lockdown on Sunday, December 5 at 11:40 PM on Rai1. The film was directed by Fabio Cavalli and is based on an idea by the Vice President of Luiss, Paola Severino. The film depicts the experience of four Luiss university students with a group of inmates from the high-security wing of Rebibbia prison.

The film gives voice to the fears and anxieties sparked by the pandemic within the prison system, and its impact on inmates and prison officers. During the period when COVID-19 forced everyone into isolation, the documentary’s protagonists engaged in a lively exchange of letters, where each individual openly shared their dreams, hopes, and sacrifices. Only when the lockdown ends will all the protagonists have the chance to meet again in person in the Rebibbia university classroom, feeling a stronger bond than before.

Rebibbia Lockdown is also the natural continuation of the “Legality and Merit in Schools” project. Launched in 2017, the project has always been designed for high school students and young inmates at juvenile detention centers across Italy. Its aim is to raise awareness about the values of legality and merit, as well as a culture of shared responsibility, rules, civic responsibility, transparency, and respect for common goods.

“Legality and Merit in Schools” is an initiative developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of University and Research, the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate, and the National Anti-Corruption Authority.

Rebibbia Lockdown – a Clipper Media production with Rai Cinema, in collaboration with Luiss Guido Carli, supported by the Lazio Region/Regional Film Fund, and made possible thanks to the cooperation of the Ministry of Justice – Department of Prison Administration – has now been featured in the TG1 Special, following its presentation at the Venice Production Bridge during the 78th Venice International Film Festival.
