Luiss is one of the sponsors of Start Cup Lazio (SCL), the regional business plan competition that recognizes the best innovative business projects developed at Lazio's universities and research institutions. SCL aims to promote academic and student entrepreneurship and the spread of an entrepreneurial culture within the regional scientific research system. This is achieved by supporting teams of researchers and students in creating and launching start-ups or spin-offs with a high technological and knowledge content. The goal is to foster the economic and social development of the region and the country by leveraging the economic value of scientific research.

The competition is promoted by a collaborative network coordinated by the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, which includes universities, research institutions, businesses, and financial operators that support entrepreneurship and innovation. SCL is organized in partnership with the Lazio Region through Lazio Innova SpA as part of the National Innovation Award (PNI), Italy’s Business Plan Competition. This competition is the final stage of the regional Business Plan Competitions, promoted by PNICube – the Italian Association of Universities and associated incubators – and the Regional Start Cups. 

The top innovative business projects will have the opportunity to compete for the National Innovation Award (PNI). There are also cash prizes for the top three teams in the student and researcher categories, along with additional special prizes.

SCL fosters the creation of new businesses originating from universities, thereby contributing to the goals of new entrepreneurship and technology transfer within the Rome Technopole project.
