Instructional goals

The course aims to provide students with a wide knowledge of tourism management in an international business context The students will discuss the latest developments, news and challenges in the tourism Industry and try to provide realistic solutions to the industry. The students will also be exposed to the issues of sustainability and destination management to understand how to develop offers based on the combination of the different actors that compose the tourism sector.

Intended learning outcomes

Students completing this course will have achieved the following objectives: - Understanding the complexity of tourism industry and its main challenges - Identifying the main KPIs and propose solutions to attract tourists in an international context - Understanding the issue of sustainability in tourism - Developing a destination-based perspective in the design of tourism strategies

Course Contents

The content is divided into two parts: In the first half of the course, students will learn about industry dynamics and key players with a major focus on hospitality firms, business models, innovation and on the latest challenges in the industry. The second half is focused on sustainable tourism and on how to manage the destination and its stakeholders to attract tourist demand while creating value for the community

Teaching Methods

The course will combine lectures and seminars, in which dialogue between the teacher and the students will be necessary. Students’ attendance and active participation is extremely important and will be valued by the teacher

Assessment Method

Team works: 50% Class participation: 20% Final test: 30%

Pass the exam with a minimum evaluation of 27/30
