Key academic regulations
- Students who are interested are required to read the curriculum and the rules that apply to it. As a general rule, it is not possible to make changes to the curriculum.
- The examinations listed in the curriculum must be taken and passed before the start of the mobility year.
- During the mobility period, students will be subject to the regulations of Maastricht University.
Information about the dissertation
Detailed information about the procedures and their deadlines will be provided by the two universities during the course of the programme. For reference:
- Students will work on their theses during their mobility period at Maastricht University, under the supervision of two supervisors – one from each university.
- Students are required to comply with the procedures and deadlines set by both institutions for completing their dissertations. Each university will assess the final thesis in accordance with its own criteria and academic regulations.
- Students must complete all academic activities required by the programme (including all first-year courses to be taken at Luiss) before defending their thesis at Maastricht University.
- Students will be required to defend their thesis orally in one of the following ways:
- at Maastricht University by the end of June/beginning of July and at Luiss in July (where possible, depending on the timescales for the credit recognition procedure). In this case, the degree awarded by Maastricht University will be conferred by November;
- at Maastricht University by the end of June/beginning of July, and at Luiss during the October/November session. In this case, the degree awarded by Maastricht University will be conferred in the spring of the following year;
- at Maastricht University by the end of October and at Luiss during the October/November session. In this case, the degree awarded by Maastricht University will be conferred in the spring of the following year.

- Students selected for a Double Degree programme are required to follow the curriculum set out for the year of mobility, including any changes, particularly those relating to language courses and other academic activities.

Admission Criteria (mobility year 2026/27)

English language requirements: Students must have an English language proficiency level of at least C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference, as evidenced by one of the following qualifications:
English language certificates must not have been awarded more than two years before the programme start date (September 2026). |

Candidates who meet the admission requirements will be placed on the ranking list based on their academic record and the criteria set out in the table below. Academic records will be assessed based on the data available at the Student Administration Office by the deadline specified in the Call for Applications (usually mid-February).
