Italian language courses

Luiss University offers free Italian language courses for Erasmus and exchange students during both the first and second semesters.

The courses run for three hours a week. Students who attend regularly and meet the course requirements will receive a certificate and earn 3 ECTS credits (per semester).

Registration is open upon arrival, and there are no enrollment limits.

The courses are offered at three levels:

  • Beginner (A0–A1, A1–A2)
  • Intermediate (A2–B1, B1–B2)
  • Advanced (C1)

Beginner Level (A0-A1)

This level is for those who have never taken an Italian language course. The main aim of the course is to help the student understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to the most immediately relevant areas (e.g., very basic personal and family information, shopping).

Beginner to Pre-Intermediate Level (A1-A2)

This level is for those who have taken an Italian language course for a short period of time. The main aim of the course is to help the student understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to the most immediately relevant areas (e.g., shopping, local geography, transportation, travel, vacations and hotels, and employment).

Intermediate Level (A2–B1)

This level is for those who have already taken an Italian course and can communicate in everyday situations.
The main goal of the course is to improve oral communication. Particular emphasis is placed on listening comprehension, enabling students to fully benefit from lectures in their university classes.

Upper Intermediate to Advanced Level (B1-B2)

This level is for those who are already proficient in the language and need to develop specialized language skills. The main goal is to help students achieve a high standard of reading and writing.

Advanced (C1)

Additional activities are provided for level C1. This level is for those who need to develop a topic systematically, placing appropriate emphasis on significant points and presenting relevant supporting details. Specific homework assignments or activities are required to take the test.

Extracurricular Activities

These include:

  • A presentation followed by a discussion
  • Meetings with Italian businesspeople
  • Guided tours with specialized teachers

The activities and meetings expand on topics already covered in class and are tailored to the interests of individual participants.

Professor Concetta Amato is in charge of these courses.
