Diplomacy in Practice

The Diplomacy in Practice course aims to spark students' interest in diplomacy and international careers by introducing them to the profession's key aspects: who diplomats are, what they do, and the rules of the game in international relations as seen from the inside.

The course will focus on two topics. The first topic is institutional communication, and the second is negotiation theories and techniques.

The course will be delivered through practical lectures and exercises. Participants will be able to deepen their knowledge of institutional communication and diplomacy, and engage in hands-on diplomatic work (drafting documents, simulating negotiations, etc.), guided by professionals in the field.

General rules

  • The course lasts a total of 30 hours, and students will also be required to work on assigned project work.    To earn university credits, students must attend 80% of the total hours, which amounts to 24 hours (allowing for a maximum of 6 hours of absence), and must be deemed eligible for the final assessment by the instructor.
  • A tutor will be responsible for recording attendance, which will be done by signing an attendance register. Failure to sign in and/or out will be considered an absence. There will be no exceptions to the sole criterion for awarding university credits: attendance.
  • Absence hours will be calculated based on the attendance records. Depending on the schedule or personal needs, students can take these hours all in one day or spread them out across multiple sessions.
  • Once a student has chosen their course, they will not be able to earn University Credits through any other means.
  • Students who have already earned the required University Credits for Other Activities as part of their curriculum, or who have already started attending optional language courses or other activities that grant University Credits, are not eligible.

The activity calendar will be available in September.
