DELE

Luiss promotes and organizes DELE exam sessions in collaboration with the Instituto Cervantes in Rome, a public body established by the Spanish State to promote the teaching, study, and use of Spanish and to spread Hispanic cultures abroad.

In 2026, the Instituto Cervantes will organize two exam sessions, one in May and one in November.

DELE Diplomas are official certificates issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, attesting to a person’s proficiency in the Spanish language. It is recognized worldwide and has no expiration date, facilitating intercultural exchange, access to education, and professional growth.

The DELE exam assesses the four core language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

The DELE exam will be held at the Instituto Cervantes locations. Each candidate will take the oral exam on Thursday, May 21, and the written exam on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The following DELE exam levels are available in the November session: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2.

Why take the DELE exam with Luiss

Luiss offers selected students an intensive DELE exam preparation course, which includes a final mock exam . The 20-hour course is delivered remotely and is taught by specialized instructors from the Instituto Cervantes. The course is completely free and reserved for students who register for the exam by paying the participation fee. Please note that the course prepares students for the following exam levels: B1, B2, C1, and C2. Upon course completion, the Instituto Cervantes will provide free access to the DELE exam model, allowing candidates to practice online right up to the day of the test. Luiss students also receive a 20% discount on the exam registration fee.

Who can register for the DELE exam?

Registration requirement

All Luiss students, whether on track or notwho are officially enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or single-cycle Master's program for the current academic year at the time of application.

Language requirement

Only students who have achieved a final or intermediate level of language proficiency equal to or higher than A2.2 at Luiss, as well as those who already hold the international DELE certification (provided it was obtained within the last two years), may register for the DELE exam. The certification must be sent to cla@luiss.it by the form submission deadline.

Ad hoc test

Students who do not have a Spanish language level obtained at Luiss, or the international DELE certification, must take a placement test (written and oral) to demonstrate a language proficiency level of A2.2 or higher.

Students who have already taken the final Spanish language exam at Luiss in sessions prior to the winter session of the 2025/2026 academic year (December 2025 – January 2026) and whose level was not sufficient to meet the requirement outlined in the call for applications may also take the test .

However, students enrolled in degree programs that require them to achieve a Luiss language level (intermediate or final) in time to submit their application for the DELE exam will not be eligible to take the test.

The written test must be taken online from 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026. The oral interview will take place between Wednesday, March 18 and Friday, March 20, 2026, and details will be communicated directly to the candidate.

The test result serves only to verify the language proficiency required to take the DELE exam. Therefore, no certificate attesting to the Spanish language level determined during the test will be issued afterward.

The course prepares students for the B1, B2, C1, and C2 exam levels and aims to provide the technical skills and tools needed to prepare for the exam’s four sections: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression and interaction, and oral expression and interaction. During the final lesson, students also take a mock exam, which the instructor corrects and provides feedback on.

The course will be held remotely on the Webex platform on the following days and times:

  • Friday, April 10, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM
  • Saturday, April 11, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
