Definition of language levels

The Common   European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) describes the skills acquired by those studying a foreign language.

The six proficiency levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) outlined in the CEFR are used across Europe and in other continents as benchmarks, providing a reference model for the development of teaching materials and the assessment of language skills.

In line with the CEFR's macro levels, Luiss uses a dedicated level scale for each language, which includes a series of sub-modules. Each submodule corresponds to the progress to be made, taking into account the number of classroom instruction hours scheduled for each semester of the course.

Below are the scales in use for students enrolled starting in the 2015–2016 academic year:
