The Italian Committee for UNICEF – Onlus, often abbreviated as UNICEF Italy, is an integral part of the global structure of UNICEF – the United Nations Children's Fund, the UN's subsidiary body with a mandate to protect and promote the rights of girls, boys, and adolescents from 0 to 18 years old worldwide, as well as to contribute to improving their living conditions.

Volunteers will initially be introduced to this important organization through a training program about the world of UNICEF as a subsidiary body of the United Nations.

  • UNICEF's Sport Amico Program for Boys and Girls

https://www.unicef.it/doc/157/sport-amico-dei-bambini-e-delle-bambine.htm

Every year, the International Day of the Rights of the Child is celebrated around the world. Sport serves as a unique platform, capable of engaging the public through both the values it conveys in competition and through its players.

In collaboration with UNICEF, a series of communication activities are organized, culminating in a Championship Day, typically held in November. This event serves as a platform to spread a message of solidarity and to raise funds through an auction of the participating teams’ players’ jerseys. The project is now well established, and UNICEF is expanding its scope with the aim of improving the expected results.

 Project

Number of students to involve: 5 or more

Develop initiatives for the championship day dedicated to celebrating the International Day of the Rights of the Child, which falls on November 20.

Goals

1.   Engage the world of sports, starting with the Serie A League, in raising awareness among their stakeholders about UNICEF's issues.

2.   Minimum fundraising   goal: 10K

  •  UNICEF School and University Program

Project:

Number of students to involve: 5 or more

 1.       Create a promotional campaign on the UNICEF website and social media aimed at young university students, once it has been agreed with the university to launch the course.

 2.       Create a very light and flexible survey for the UNICEF website to gather the perspectives of the students (through interviews, short videos, etc.) as well as those of some speakers. This will serve as a kind of logbook, telling the story of the course.

The various videos can then be compiled to tell the story of a year of activities across different regions.

  • Younicef Program

 https://www.unicef.it/doc/1538/younicef-il-movimento-giovanile-unicef-italia.htm

Title: “YOUth Power”

All volunteers aged 14 to 30 are part of YOUNICEF – Young for UNICEF: the Italian Committee for UNICEF’s program dedicated to young people. Young people who join YOUNICEF not only contribute locally, but also take part in national and international training and participation initiatives. Volunteering with and for UNICEF offers the chance to connect with peers, receive guidance through a training program to gain new knowledge and skills, develop a deeper awareness of oneself and others, and experience the satisfaction of making a commitment.

Project:

Number of students to involve: 10

After initially sharing information and tools from the YOUNICEF world, we’ll ask the students to step into the shoes of a “typical volunteer.” We’ll aim to motivate them and make them feel part of a group, just as happens at the start of a typical YOUNICEF journey, because teamwork enables us to achieve greater goals and truly feel connected to a network. With this in mind, students will receive support in envisioning and implementing initiatives to promote the CRC, raise funds, and engage with the under-30 target audience.

Methodology and objectives:

Through workshops and peer-to-peer education, with the direct involvement of our YOUNICEF volunteers, we will ask students to create a campaign as part of the “LUISS&YOUNICEF” project. This campaign will target individuals under 30 and be disseminated through social media channels. It will highlight the strength of young people – hence “YOUth Power” – and offer tangible opportunities arising from the connection between the world of YOUNICEF volunteering and the LUISS student community.

  •  Pigotta Project

 https://www.pigotta.it/

The Pigotta is a rag doll, a special doll that can give a child hope for a better life.
In the Lombard dialect, “Pigotte” were the rag dolls of the post-war era; today, they are UNICEF’s unique and one-of-a-kind dolls. They are handmade with imagination and creativity by grandparents, parents, and children at home, at school, and in associations and senior centers across Italy.

Each Pigotta creates a circle of solidarity that unites the person who made the doll, the person who adopted it, and the child who, thanks to UNICEF, will receive proper nutrition, play, go to school, and have the right opportunities for the future.

Project:

Number of students to be involved: 20 (divided into 4 groups of 5)

The proposal is to engage students in devising new ways to promote the Pigotta, aiming to boost both offline and online adoptions.

  • Civil Service Project

https://www.unicef.it/doc/6802/servizio-civile-con-unicef-italia.htm

<p class="MsoNormal"> During June and July 2020, amidst a health emergency and its aftermath, UNICEF Italy resumed its Universal Civil Service projects through remote activities. These projects are founded on values that include defending constitutional principles and fostering an experience of solidarity and learning for volunteers in civil service.

The activities promoted and listed below are aimed at combating the health emergency, promoting the rights of children and adolescents, and raising awareness among individuals under 18 about the rights enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Project:

Number of students to be involved: max 5

Activity period:  July 6–17, 2020 (2–3 days per week);

In this context, the inclusion of LUISS students is conceivable. Their role would be to support the volunteer Operators in Universal Civil Service in designing and implementing the activities, and they would also participate in preliminary training on UNICEF and on how the initiatives are carried out. The experience would involve students interacting with UNICEF staff (such as coordinators and trainers) and with civil service workers. The exchange with the latter would also include a peer-to-peer component, with participants having different motivations and backgrounds.

Activities:

1.   Collecting and developing materials for children and adolescents, to be shared, including via social media, to address the health emergency and promote the rights outlined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, building on materials developed by UNICEF internationally.

2.   Creating a feature for children and teens with fun, recreational activities about the rights of individuals under 18, to be shared on social media.
