Sant'Egidio
The Community of Sant'Egidio was founded in 1968. Today, it is a lay movement with over 60,000 members in Italy and across 73 countries on different continents.
Volunteers who participate in year-round volunteer activities with the Community of Sant'Egidio will be able to choose from different areas of focus.
The type of activities and how they are carried out will be agreed upon with the partner, taking into account the needs and availability of the Association and the volunteers. To earn the university credits, you must have participated in the activities for all weeks of both the first semester (starting in early October) and the second semester, with a maximum of four missed sessions.
Activities
Volunteers who participate in year-round volunteer activities with the Sant'Egidio community can choose from different areas:
• Peace Schools with children from Rome's suburbs
• The Poor of Rome – The Homeless
• Visiting the elderly in care facilities
The type and method of activities will be agreed upon with the partner, taking into account the needs and availability of the Association and the volunteers.
1 - SCHOOLS OF PEACE WITH CHILDREN FROM ROME'S OUTSKIRTS
Students dedicate one afternoon per week (approximately 4 hours between Monday and Friday) to service at the Peace Schools in Pigneto, Tor Sapienza, Tiburtino, or Prima Porta, actively participating in the following activities:- preparation
- logistical support and assistance with homework
- activities focused on integration, peace, dialogue, and understanding global issues
- recreational and leisure activities
- preparing hot meals
- dividing people into groups and distributing meals
- food drives at supermarkets
- Activities will take place in the afternoon, once a week.
- Students will be involved in visiting activities, organizing parties, and having lunches with seniors.
A MANDATORY MONTHLY MEETING (2 HOURS – 1 EVENING) IS SCHEDULED FOR TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT.
To earn the credits, you must participate in the activities every week during both the first semester (starting in early October) and the second semester, completing at least 30 hours per semester. Each student will have a form to collect and confirm schedules and signatures.
